5 THINGS TO DO FOR YOUR PREGNANT WIFE

5 THINGS TO DO FOR YOUR PREGNANT WIFE

Getting pregnant for one’s husband is the joy of almost every wife. They want and anticipate it. Many of them cannot wait to give birth to their husbands. In this article, 5 THINGS TO DO FOR YOUR PREGNANT WIFE, I want to show husbands ways they can support their wives and be there for them.

Some time ago, I was going to work one morning and I met the wife of one of the brothers I know in the church. She was heavily pregnant for the second time.

This is a woman I attended her wedding. You needed to see how she was looking on her wedding day. She was very thin but the last time I saw her, she was looking chubby, double what she used to be. She has gained so much weight. The pregnancy is taking a toll on her.

We greeted and I bid her farewell and a successful delivery. As I continued on my journey, I began to reflect on what pregnancy does to a woman. In fact, no woman should go on the journey of pregnancy without the loving support of her husband.

As a matter of fact, this experience with that woman was what inspired me to write this article, 5 THINGS TO DO FOR YOUR PREGNANT WIFE. As a husband with a pregnant wife, you need to understand that pregnancy comes with a whole lot of things.

According to an article, “A woman’s body undergoes many transformations during the nine months of pregnancy. Some of these physical changes are visible, such as an expanding belly and weight gain, while others are well known, such as an enlarged uterus, morning sickness, and backaches.”

Another article also buttressed the point,” Pregnancy brings a variety of changes to the body. They can range from common and expected changes, such as swelling and fluid retention, to less familiar ones such as vision changes.”

One article summarized the changes that occur during pregnancy this way:

  • Your body changes during pregnancy. You may love some changes and feel uncomfortable with others.
  • You may experience a lot of physical changes during pregnancy, or only a few.
  • You will probably have emotional ups and downs during pregnancy.
  • If you have depression or a mental illness during pregnancy, you need specialist care and treatment.
  • Some physical and emotional experiences are common to a particular trimester (stage) of pregnancy.

So as a husband, how do you support your wife during this nine months journey of pregnancy? Here are 5 things to do for your pregnant wife.

1. Help Her

In many homes the wife is the one responsible for the home, cooking meals, cleaning the house, washing dishes and clothes, etc. The time of pregnancy is not the time to subject your wife to these chores.

If you have not been helping out in running the house and you should, this is the time to help your wife to do those things that she normally does. Allow her to rest, sweep the house, cook for her, and wash the clothes. Just help out in any way you can. If you cannot do that, hire someone to do that.

I don’t think it’s right to leave your pregnant wife to be overstressing herself during pregnancy, especially when the pregnancy is getting closer to delivery. It may impact the pregnancy negatively.

2. Compliment her

As you already know, during pregnancy a lot of wives change their bodies. Some of these changes are desirable while others are not. Some of them add weight, some have swollen legs, stretch marks, etc. It is at this stage that many women begin to struggle with self-esteem. They will be thinking that their husband will not find them attractive again and that they will start looking outside for other women.

And truth be told, a lot of men tend to cheat on their wives during pregnancy because of the changes that come with pregnancy. During pregnancy, a lot of wives tend to look unattractive, untidy, and unkempt but that is not an excuse to cheat on them.

So, at this stage, she will need your assurance as often as possible that you love her. Compliment her and vocalize your love for her. Let her hear you speak those positive affirmations to her. It does good for her emotions.

Tell her how beautiful she is, how great her body is, and really meant it, even have sex with her throughout the pregnancy period so she will know that you still find her attractive.

3. Be There For Her

Pregnancy is not a death sentence but it is not an easy task. As much as possible try to be there for her. Go with her for antenatal and medical checks up. Don’t be an absentee husband, remember she is carrying your baby. Don’t be a hit-and-run husband. Be there for her as much as possible.

Spend time with her discussing things. Massage her body. The point is, to make sure you are there for her throughout the pregnancy and beyond.

4. Be patient with her

A lot of things can irritate your pregnant wife and make her throw up, from the smell of your perfume to the smell of your body cream or soap, air freshener in the house can irritate her too. Some of them will be spitting every second, phew phew phew….yuck. It can be so annoying.

Not only irritation, but many of them also have weird cravings during pregnancy. Some eat anything edible during pregnancy, some eat weird food combinations.

In all these, you need to be patient as a husband. It’s not easy. If you’re not patient you will get frustrated and angry and may do something funny. So, be patient.
